KNOCK ON THE SKY

KNOCK ON THE SKY was inspired by the Myth of Sisyphus and Kobo Abe's Woman in the Dunes. The work unfolds within a subtly shifting sonic and visual installation that is controlled by the performers in real time. The three principal collaborators (Dawn Akemi Saito (conceiver, choreographer and performer), Myra Melford (conceiver, composer and pianist), Michael Haberz (light and visual design)), perform in the piece, along with choreographer and dancer Oguri, bassist Stomu Takeishi, trumpeter Cuong Vu, and video artist Reinhard Ploesch.

The performers are behind a transparent black scrim and live video images are multi-layered and projected onto the black scrim, the set (a curved wooden wall) and stage back wall. One camera is built into the curved wooden wall which films close-up images of the performers.
